The MSA had an opportunity to help a Maryland Boy Scout on his Eagle project. Details and pictures of Justin's handicapped duck blind are seen below:
Hi, my name is
Justin Loyka and I am a Life Scout in Troop 247 of Centreville, MD. For my Eagle
project I have been building a mobile, Handicapped-accessible wildfowl blind
which will be donated to DNR upon completion.
More specifically, it will be delivered to the DNR station on Wye Island run by
Ranger Dave Davis. Mr. Davis is planning to use the blind for activities ranging
from nature photography to hunting by handicapped individuals, in several
different sites on the island.
The blind is constructed of pressure-treated pine; it is 6x10 ft and about 5
feet tall. I have mounted the blind on 4x6 skids to make it more mobile and have
built it with a 10 ft ramp and extra wide doorway so it is accessible to
wheelchair-bound and other handicapped individuals.
With the generous contributions from several local businesses and organizations,
including the MSA, I have not only managed to accumulate the funds needed to
build the blind and accompanying ramp but also enough to purchase a trailer on
which the blind can be moved.
The blind will probably be completed this month and donated in late November or
early December. For more information about my project or Wye Island contact
Ranger Dave Davis at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area.
