MSA Call to Action - Public Hunting Land
Date: February 19, 2004
Attention: All sportsmen in MD
Concerning: In 2002, a law was passed that raised the hunting license fees for Maryland sportsmen. In return, for the increase in fees, the law also required the State of Maryland to open 50% of the Chesapeake Forest Lands on the Eastern Shore to public hunting by the 2005-2006 season. DNR has been working hard for the last few years to open these lands as required, and is on target to achieve the 2005-2006 deadline.
Now, this SB292 bill seeks to change that law, and prevent this land from being
opened to public hunting (but, while still maintaining the increased license
fees).
As land development continues, the demand for public hunting land access will
become greater and greater -- the opening of these 29,000 acres is vital for the
future of Maryland hunting. It is important that all Maryland sportsmen contact
these committee members, and tell them that we raised our license fees in 2002
under the promise of additional public hunting acreage, and now that promise
must be kept.
