MSA Call to Action - Trapping Ban
Date: February 3, 2004
Attention: All sportsmen in MD
Concerning:
Anti-hunting
groups have introduced SB 279 and HB 498, anti-trapping bills that will ban leg-hold
traps in Maryland. This bill is very much similar to the anti-trapping bill that
sportsmen helped to shoot down last year. For the sake of hunting's future, it
is vitally important that we do the same again this year. If the
anti-hunters take down trappers, then dog hunters, and bowhunters will be next
in line. Calling your
legislator takes literally less than one minute.
Recommended
Action:
Contact the members of the Senate
Education, Health, & Environmental Affairs Committee and tell them to vote against SB
279.
Contact the members of the House
Environmental Matters Committee and tell them to vote against HB 498.

Hints
on Calling Legislators:
Details:
Once again, the anti-hunting organizations have submitted bills to ban trapping in the State of Maryland. And once again, the sportsmen of Maryland have to step up to kill this bill. All sportsmen, even those that do not trap, must realize the importance of defeating this bill.
SB-279
& HB-498 would ban the use of leg-hold traps -- the primary tool for Maryland's trappers.
Over and over again, trapping has been credited as being one of the most
effective methods of controlling the furbearer population. States such as
Washington and California, who have succumb to the emotional rhetoric of the
anti-trappers are now experiencing serious consequences.
The
bottom line is that trapping is still very important in today's society. Much of
what the anti-trappers report is simply emotional rhetoric -- lies and
half-truths. Sportsmen of Maryland should call the members of the Senate Education, Health, & Environmental
Affairs Committee and ask them to vote down SB-279. Also, the members of the
House Environmental Matters Committee must also be contacted and asked to vote
down HB-498.
