MSA Call to Action - Ballistic Fingerprinting
Date: March 7, 2003
Attention: All sportsmen and gun owners in MD
Concerning:
SB 208 & HB 696 are anti-sportsmen bills that would require all new sporting rifles and
shotguns to undergo the type of ballistic fingerprint testing that is currently
demanded on handguns.
The Maryland Sportsmen's Association opposes these bills primarily because the
current handgun system is already expensive to run, and already largely ineffective
in helping to solve crimes. Including an estimated 68,000 new sporting long guns
into the system will only magnify the problems of the current system. In
addition, the MSA believes that the honest, law-abiding hunters and shooters of
Maryland should not be forced to undergo this type of underserved scrutiny.
