MSA Call to Action - Black Bears

Date:                March 7, 2003

Attention:          All sportsmen in MD, especially those in the Western Region

Concerning:      HB 629 is an anti-hunting bill that would forbid Maryland's DNR from conducting any bear hunts in the State of Maryland until 2009. This bill would go against the findings of the Maryland Black Bear Task Force which recently recommended that hunting be included as an important tool in the management of the black bear population. HB 629 would also remove DNR's authority to manage the black bear population.

Recommended Action:        Contact the members of the House Environmental Matters Committee and tell them to vote for HB 629. It is especially important that the sportsmen in Western Maryland get involved in Annapolis on this issue, because they are the citizens who are most effected by the black bear population
